Principal's and Assistant Principal's Welcome Letters

Welcome to Santana High School, located at the Le Seda Educational Complex in La Puente.  Santana High School is a WASC accredited alternative high school.  Our mission is to assist students significantly behind in credits to make up  their credits, get on track for graduation and graduate with options after high school.  Working as a  team of students, staff, parents and community, we believe that through hard work our students will be in a position to elect to enter college, vocational training, the military or the world of work.  The choice will be theirs because they have set short, medium and long term goals for themselves and have taken ownership of their learning.

Santana’s dedicated staff work with our students in smaller classes of 18-22 students  but rigorous classes.  Students are enrolled in a minimum of 7 periods a day with options for acceleration, challenging course, college credit courses, ROP and work study.  Santana’s graduation requirements are identical to those at the other high schools in Rowland USD and students take the same statewide exams as every other student in California.

A little bit about my background….

I am excited to be here at Santana High School with the great staff we have in place.  I have been a teacher, principal of an elementary and alternative high school and worked in the district office before coming to Santana High School.  I also believe that my experiences as a Naval Aviator and as a  business executive with firms like Proctor & Gamble and Pillsbury give me the perspective on what awaits our students after high school the will help us guide them to develop life goals.

I retired as a Commander from the US Navy and was on active duty in Germany on 9-11-2001.  I am a graduate of the UC Berkley (BS), University of Hawaii (MBA), CSU Long Beach (Credential) and the Naval Postgraduate School (Aviation Safety Program) and the Air Command and General Staff of the US Air Force War College.  I hold a California Administrative Credential, Business Education, Social Studies, Introductory Math and Multiple Subject teaching credentials.

Hello!!! Santana High School, my name is Luis Galvan and I am so excited to be here and to be a part of the Eagle family.

For over nineteen years, I have dedicated my professional career to the field of education, both as a classified and certificated employee.  I have primarily worked in a high school setting in a variety of roles including teacher, counselor, dean, designated administrator, and assistant principal.  As my career has progressed, my professional duties have grown from to include staff development and supervision, student affairs and discipline, student testing and data analysis, and site management and building operations.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, a Master’s degree in Educational Counseling, a Pupil Personnel Credential, Administrative Services Credential, and I am currently searching for an EDD program.

I am often praised for demonstrating extreme professionalism in handling my responsibilities and working with at- risk students.  I am bilingual as well as literate in both English and Spanish. In addition, I have had the opportunity to work in multicultural surroundings, which enables me to work with a diverse population.  Also, having grown up in a low, social economic area myself further helps me to empathize with students with similar backgrounds or handicaps. In other words, because of my experiences I am able to relate to them and encourage them to succeed academically.  Finally, because of the positive impact I have already had with students, especially at-risk students, I strongly believe that I have what it takes to ensure that students have a positive and successful academic experience that in turn can help them succeed not only in their academic lives but their lives in general.

Best regards,
Galvan
