Santana High School
October 14, 2013
I. Meeting called to order at 7:26 a.m.
Quorum met
Minutes reviewed and approved at 7:31 a.m.
II Open Forum
Barrett proposed special meeting for approving Mr. Duran an extra day as counselor on Santana campus. Motion approved unanimously.
III. Site Reports
Mr. Johnson spoke to the shift in the U.S. to the Common Core standards – a vast shift with what was done from the past regarding how students are taught.
Student learning level is identified through multiple tests/data for support .
Barriers occur due to students being so credit deficient, though Santana has great teachers.
IV. Unfinished Business
Mr. Munoz said the counselor has been approved for a 4th day, and he continues to advocate for a 5th day paid by the district for Mr. Duran.
Mr. Munoz stated he will bring copies of the categorical budget for the next meeting in November.
V. School Goals
SPSA – Mr. Johnson is scheduling meetings with each dept. and looking at data.
Mr. Munoz stated that Santana has grown historically 6-7% in student performance and administration is pushing for 10% growth this year.
Goals are put together with the collaboration of each dept.
Mrs. Guzman stated that teachers focus on goals at the beginning of the year with administration; this year Santana is focusing on our EL students.
VII. Reports
ELAC/DELAC – Mrs. Guzman stated there was an abundance of parent participation with the focus on closing the achievement gap with EL’s. If you would like to know the ELAC/DELAC meeting dates, see Mrs. Guzman.
LACOE – teacher training with science and social science focusing on EL students, which will help all students.
VII. Announcements
Back to School Night is Wednesday, October 16, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
A presentation will be in the auditorium at 5 p.m.
All members of the community are invited to attend/snacks will be sold.
VIII. Other
Martin Cruz had a concern about hats and beanies that will be brought up at the next meeting during open forum.
Luis Arrazola had a concern about books for science class that will be brought up at the next meeting during open forum.
